When to Use Which
If the output of the AI interaction is consumed by a human who then decides what to do next, that is a generative AI use case. A copywriter using an LLM to draft ad copy and then editing it. A developer using Copilot to generate a function and then reviewing it. An analyst using an LLM to summarize a report and then drawing conclusions from the summary.
If the system decides what to do next and then does it without waiting for a human, that is an agentic use case. The human may have defined the goal and the boundaries, but the execution is autonomous. The right framework for AI and intelligent automation is to map every step of a workflow and ask, for each step, whether the human is adding judgment or just relaying information.
